Effective immediately, and in response to the CFPB’s RESPA FAQs, all of CATIC’s Real Estate Schools that offer real estate continuing education courses for license maintenance shall: 1) be open to all real estate licensees; and 2) require each licensee registered for such course to donate $10 (or if in person, bring $10 worth of non-perishable food items) to a 501(c)(3) charitable organization of CATIC’s choosing. CATIC has determined said donation amount is equivalent to the fair market value of each course. (For detailed calculation of per user cost breakdown, please contact Andrea Alessandro at aalessandro@catic.com.) CATIC Real Estate Schools shall retain records of charitable contributions for all continuing education courses for license maintenance in accordance with each state’s records retention guidelines.

If the continuing education is not required for license maintenance (e.g., a seminar on common title issues or a new law affecting probate) then the donation requirement can be waived, and the course can be offered for free. However, all continuing education must be open to all real estate agents, not just referral sources.
